It is my responsibility at Valencia Group to coordinate company-wide promotions and find fun and unique ways for our hotels to connect with our community. To support the communities where we are built and give back to all of those who graciously give to our hotels has long been a pillar of strength at our hotel company. This includes, but is not limited to, supporting not for profits in each of our cities. For many years, our hotels have supported various organizations and I have so enjoyed the moments when all 5 of our properties can participate collectively.
Last year, we participated in “No Shave November” with raising awareness for cancer and much to our surprise, we raised over $2,000 in our first year. The premise behind the “No Shave November” campaign is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free. Donate the money you typically spend on shaving and grooming to educate about cancer prevention, save lives, and aid those fighting the battle.
To embrace the cause, we select two managers at each of our hotels to throw away their razors for the month. But no worries, as a conscious decision and due to our grooming standards, we are not selecting managers in the food and beverage departments! To make our guests aware of this promotion, they will find our associates wearing buttons as part of their uniform stating that the hotel is participating in No Shave November as well as a poster in each of the hotel lobbies. In addition to managers, our hotel marketing directors have reached out to local media personalities to encourage them to also grow out their facial hair in partnership with us. We encourage participants to activate their social media channels to call on friends, family, co-workers and industry partners to join in the fight, as well as chronicle their “growth.” It is such a fun experience to watch day 1 posted on social media and then see the progress of growth on day 15 and day 30! On December 1st, deemed as National Shave Day – our hotels will host a shave event with local barbers.
In our stylish bars in each of our cities including both Vbars in San Antonio and San Jose, the Water Trough in Austin, Bar Rosso in Kansas City, and the Monnalisa in Houston; we are offering specialty specialty cocktails such as the Mustache Mule and Bearded Lady adorned with handlebar straws. In true Valencia Group spirit of giving, 10% of sales from these beverage items will benefit the American Cancer Society
So hair today and gone tomorrow, we invite you, our overnight guests, our locals who frequent our ever-popular bars, our patrons to our restaurants, or just simply a fan of Valencia Group to join our team and #letitgrow. To donate, click here and help us create awareness and make a difference.
